Booking a boudoir session is a HUGE deal. Like I always say, this is not your every day, or typically even every year, photo shoot. I consider these fantasy sessions with all the bells & whistles. This is not a decision you will want to make lightly. Do your research and choose wisely. Here are the top 8 things you should know about your boudoir photographer.

No. 1: DO THEY MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE?

Speak with the photographer before hand. If they offer a consultation, that’s a plus! You probably don’t make this kind investment often. It’s important to know what to expect & that you’re going to have a fantastic experience. This is someone that will see you nearly naked. You definitely want to feel comfortable and at ease. If they have a private group on Facebook, join that! It’s a great way to get to know your photographer’s style, mission & philosophy.

No. 2: DO YOU LOVE THEIR WORK?

Make sure you love their style. Check out their website, social media, blog, Facebook Group (if they have one). Make sure they photograph ALL body types. Do their clients look relaxed, happy, natural, sexy? Do they show a variety of emotions? Also, do you like their editing style? These are all important factors in making this big decision.

 

No. 3: DO THEY WALK THE WALK?

They might “talk the talk”, but have they “walked the walk”? Have they been in your shoes? It’s important to know if the photographer has also had a boudoir session done themselves. You’ll want to know that they completely understand what you’re about to go through.

 

No. 4: WHAT’S THEIR PRICING?

This is something you definitely don’t want to price shop for. Cheaper does not mean better. Look at what’s included. Does the session fee include professional hair & makeup styling? What about wardrobe? And is retouching included? This session is something that will last the rest of your life. This is a huge decision. Make it carefully.

 

No. 5: ARE THEY EXPERIENCED?

Does the photographer specialize in boudoir? And only shoot boudoir? How long have they been doing it? With boudoir photography, specializing & more experience is always better. Do they have experience photographing all body types? Does their portfolio show a diverse array of clients?

 

No. 6: DO THEY RETOUCH THEIR IMAGES?

Ask about their post-processing techniques. It’s important that you find a photographer who is experienced in professional retouching techniques that include Lightroom & Photoshop. Do their clients look “real” in their photos, or do they look plastic? Can you see their skin texture? These are all good things to ask and look for in their work.

 

No. 7: DO THEY HAVE A PRIVACY POLICY?

Does the photographer require you to sign a model release? Or do they allow you to keep your images private? What steps will they take to protect your images? If they use an online gallery, is it password & PIN protected?
