07 Aug How To Prepare For Your Boudoir Shoot | Austin Boudoir Photography
Boudoir photography captures an intimate celebration of self love & discovery. It can be bold, tender, understated, vivid, and is always a wonderful experience to have. Our clients finish their session feeling beautiful, strong, empowered…and exhausted! Ha!
If you choose to do a boudoir session, you don’t need to spend months dieting or working out, nor do you need to spend tons of money on a suitcase full of lingerie that you’ll rarely wear again. Find our tips on how to prepare for your session below:
Hair & Makeup
Your hair & makeup will be done by our incredible stylist, so don’t worry about that at all! We just ask that you wash your hair the night before and wash your face the morning of your session. Your hair must be totally dry when you arrive to the studio. Our team will take it from there.
Nails
Be sure to take some time a few days before your session to pamper yourself with a matching mani/pedi. We recommend staying neutral: nude, light pink, black, white, grey or American/French manicure. We want your nails to look clean and beautiful, but not steal the show.
Tanning & Waxing
If you tan, please make sure to NOT do it within a week before your session. For waxing (brows, lip, etc…), make sure to have it done at least 5 days before your session.
Wardrobe
We will make sure you look & feel great all the way around in the outfits you choose. We want to accentuate your favorite features and minimize the parts of your body that you want to de-accentuate. Also — sexy doesn’t necessarily mean less clothing. Here are our wardrobe tips:
▪ Look for texture: lace, crocheted tops, etc… Think outside the box. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a piece of lingerie. It could be a pretty top or blouse & would totally work.
▪ BODYSUITS are the BOMB! We love bodysuits. They work for ANY body type. Seriously.
▪ Your partner’s favorite t-shirt with some cute panties. Fun knee high socks add a fun element too.
▪ Don’t forget that you can include a white sheet set as one of your “outfits”.
▪ A simple bra/pantie set is great & easy.
▪ Corsets are great if you have a tummy insecurity.
▪ It may be surprising, but form fitting photographs much better than big and flowy.
▪ Make sure to bring along a simple black and nude bra, as well as a black and nude pair of undies.

Accessories
Jewelry: Our wardrobe stylist will have lots of jewelry to choose from, but if you have an important necklace, ring, watch or bracelet please definitely bring it with you to your session.
Heels: Almost as important as underwear! It’s amazing what a gorgeous pair of heels can do for a boudoir shoot. I’m also a fan of bare feet, but those sultry heels do amazing things for a sexy outfit. We have quite a few pairs of heels in our wardrobe closet, from size 5 to 11.
Hosiery: Thigh highs, fish nets, garter belts – great ways to add more interest to your photos. Please always bring a nude and black thong to your session.
Other: Fresh flowers/petals, hats, gloves are all fun accessories to add to your session. Please let us know when we have your pre-session consultation if you’d like special props, like flowers, etc… We may have some available or can arrange having them at your shoot at an additional cost.
NOTE
We highly recommend that you book your session as far in advance as possible. Your gallery reveal will happen within 2-3 weeks of your session and product delivery can take up to 25 business days.
Finally, my most important tip:
Try your best to let go, enjoy every minute of it and brace yourself for a life changing event.
Oh! And also, HAVE FUN!
